  • A 1½ inch, three ring binder with 5 dividers
  • Loose leaf paper (wide or college ruled)
  • A ruler
  • Your Textbook
  • PENCILS (all work will be completed in pencil—no pens!!)
  • Graph paper
  • TI-83/TI-84 graphing calculators are highly recommended
Classroom Rules:
First and foremost, I will be upholding the school rules that are outlined in your student handbook. Please be sure you are familiar with these rules, ignorance is not an excuse! My classroom rules are:
  1. Be responsible
  2. Always try
  3. Do your best
  4. Cooperate with others
  5. Treat everyone (including yourself) with respect
  6. Ask questions

My responsibilities as your teacher:
§         To treat you with respect and care as an individual.
§         To provide you an orderly classroom environment.
§         To provide the necessary discipline.
§         To provide the appropriate motivation.
§         To teach you the required content.
Your responsibilities as my students:
§         To treat me with respect and care as an individual.
§         To attend classes regularly.
§         To be cooperative and not disruptive.
§         To study and do your work (SUCCESS = EFFORT)
§         To learn and master the required content.

These rules apply to each and every person in the classroom, including myself. If these rules are broken, there will be consequences. They are as follows:
·        Verbal warning
·        Discussion with Student
·        Phone call home.
·        Detention after school, accompanied by a phone call home.
·        Conference with parent or guardian
·        Referral/Conference with principal
Depending on the severity of the action, some or all of the steps may be used. However, first and foremost, I will be abiding by the consequences laid out in the student handbook.

Absences: If you miss a class for whatever reason, it is your responsibility to make up the work. When you are absent, you will have 5 days to make up any classwork, homework, quizzes, tests, etc. that you missed (as described in the student handbook).

Homework: You will have an assignment every day that we have class, with the exception of test days. Homework is always due and checked at the beginning of class. We will go over most assignments in class and you should correct your homework as we do this. Nightly homework will be worth 10 points, and points are awarded for completion, not correctness. Homework will be randomly collected for correctness, and graded. To receive credit on homework, it must be done in pencil and all work must be shown. Answers only will not get you credit.
Late work will be accepted as follows at a 50% penalty:
q       I will accept 3 late assignments first quarter, 2 late assignments second quarter, 1 late assignment third quarter, 0 late assignments fourth quarter.
q       If you go past your allotted number of late assignments allowed for a specific quarter, you will be allowed to turn them in if and only if you make arrangements with Miss Timko to stay after school to complete the assignment.
Any late assignment must be turned in within one calendar week of its due date to receive any credit
Passes:  Each student will be allowed ONE HALL PASS per quarter. I will not write more than one hall pass in a quarter, so use it wisely!!! If you do not use your hall pass during the quarter, you will receive 10 extra credit points for your quarter grade.

Tests and Quizzes: Tests will be announced well ahead of time (generally by a monthly calendar that you will be given, as well as the calendar at the front of the room). Being absent the day before a test (the study day) does not exempt you from taking the test. Quizzes will be given weekly on the last A-Day of the week. Notebook quizzes will be given at the end of each quarter. This is an easy way for a lot of points, so be sure you are keeping good notes.

Students are allowed and highly encouraged to turn in corrections on quizzes. Corrections should be done on a separate piece of paper, and all work must be shown and an explanation of the mistakes must be given. In addition, the original test/quiz must be attached to the corrections. If this is done, I will award half of the points for all corrected problems back to the student. For example, if you receive an 40/50 on a test, and you attempt all of the corrections for the problems that you missed, you will get 5 points of extra credit added to your test score.

Headings: All work that is turned in should have the following heading in the top right hand side of the margin.
Name
Date
Block #
Assignment

Please keep in mind that if I don’t know who is trying to turn the assignment in or what the assignment is that I am trying to grade, I will not grade it.

After School Help:  I highly encourage those of you who may struggle with math class to seek help sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the further behind you will fall. I plan on staying after school on Thursdays to help students as needed. I am more than willing to stay after school on other days to help you when necessary, however, I do have some after school obligations, so if I am not available, you should attend CASE after school in the computer lab upstairs. There is always a math teacher present and this can be very beneficial to your grade.

I reserve the right to amend these rules and expectations as needed throughout the school year. If an amendment is made, you will be notified immediately. Please feel free to come to me with any questions or concerns that you might have.
